Toward an integrative framework of intergenerational coparenting within family systems: A scoping review

Intergenerational coparenting has become increasingly prevalent globally. Based on 42 papers identified from a comprehensive search of published studies in five databases, this scoping review major themes related to intergenerational coparenting: power and authority, division labor, conflict, coping adaptation, reciprocity. Guided by family systems theory an intersectionality perspective, we developed integrative framework that covers key themes, illustrates their interrelationships, links them influential factors at the individual, familial, sociocultural, policy levels. This can guide future inform development interventions for effectively addressing pragmatic needs joint childcare, preventing conflict relationships, devising useful adaptation strategies obtaining desirable outcomes, nurturing cooperation reciprocity process safeguard well-being functioning entire system.
